While Sobremesa literally means "over the table," the more meaningful translation is a bit longer-winded. It's that time spent after a meal, hanging out with family or friends, chatting, and enjoying each other's company. It can be applied to either lunch or dinner, and often includes family members, but also friends — and it can even include a business lunch.
A bit of history
Since the arrival of European, African, and Asian immigrants centuries ago, their food culture and ingredients have merged with those of the local indigenous to create the evolving cuisine of Latin America. Sobremesa will take you on a journey through the vibrant and colorful dishes of South America, a cuisine that can be described as a melting pot of South American cultural diversity.
Sobremesa was established in 2017 by Chef Malcolm & Anna Emmanueil. Chef Malcolm spent 5 months developing and testing Sobremesa’s first menu through supper club events in London, while Anna created Sobremesa’s signature internal decore and the work of art until the restaurant was officially opened in March 2018.
Sobremesa started as an idea, an idea that came to reality after Chef Malcolm's long gastro & cultural journey in 1998 across the largest and most diverse region in the southern continent of America, ‘Brazil’. Seeking to reconnect with his far-long heritage, Chef Malcolm combines his Guarani heritage with Mediterranean influence from his Grandma’s kitchen in cooking his signature dishes.
Using Nikkei and Chiffa influences which he learned during his travels by world-renowned chefs beside native cooking techniques. He calls upon his 25 years of culinary journey to deliver you outstanding dining experience.
